In 2019, Jesse Wig, Adam Colucci and Dan Spanovich bought an abandoned high school in Homestead, Pennslyvania. Wig, Colucci, and Spanovich went into the project with a budget of $3.2 million and, in the end, spent about $4.5 million renovating the Schwab School. The partners ended up spending about $4.5 million to renovate the Schwab School. Because Bowtie High and the Schwab School are across the street, the two are sister buildings. For now Wig, Colucci, and Spanovich don't have plans to take on another project together.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Dr. Richard W. Moriarty, a retired pediatrician from Pittsburgh who helped create the bright green Mr. Yuk sticker that warns kids away from poisonous substances, has died. Moriarty passed away on Thursday, according to Jeffrey Fugh of the funeral home John A. Freyvogel Sons Inc., which is handling arrangements in Pittsburgh. Moriarty was involved in establishing and developing the Pittsburgh Poison Center, where he served as director. He told the newspaper that the response by children in focus groups to the Mr. Yuk sticker's sickly green color and upset face was instrumental — "the Mr. Yuk symbol was designed by kids for kids.” The poison awareness campaign began in 1971. Visitation is Sunday and Monday, with a private funeral on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh-based company formed in 1901 as a merger of the nation’s leading steel companies — including Carnegie Steel Corp. — and was engineered by financier J.P. Morgan. But, in recent years, US Steel’s fallen far below other American steel companies in steel output and stock market value. (Last year, US Steel shipped only 11.2 million tons of steel from its US operations and had just under 15,000 US employees.) That compares to 14.49 million metric tons from US Steel, including its operations in Europe, which rank 27th in the world for 2022, according to the World Steel Association. Bradford said all along the way, US Steel and other US integrated steelmaking rivals with storied names such as Bethlehem Steel, Inland Steel and LTV Steel underestimated the competitive challenge that they faced from overseas and mini-mills at home.

A Norfolk Southern Corp. train appears to have been on fire miles before it derailed in eastern Ohio, putting scrutiny on the safety detectors along tracks that are supposed to alert crews to such hazards. A manufacturer in Salem, Ohio, posted a clip Friday on its Facebook page of video from a surveillance camera, which showed a fire under one of the cars being pulled by the Norfolk locomotive as it passed its facility. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the US last week to shore up support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy called McConnell one day before the visit, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Zelenskyy urged McConnell to support a measure that ultimately passed Congress, the outlet reported. John Fetterman survived a bruising Senate campaign and overcame a serious stroke to prevail against Republican Mehmet Oz to claim his state’s open Senate seat Tuesday. Yet that stumble didn’t keep Fetterman from succeeding, because he was still better than Oz at selling himself as an authentic leader for Pennsylvanians. Fetterman has moved almost seamlessly from a 13-year run as the small-town mayor of Braddock to the lieutenant governorship in 2019 to the U.S. Senate today. Oz released his records a few days after a Post-Gazette editorial asked both candidates to do so, but Fetterman never did. Fetterman has also vowed to put a high priority on union rights and abortion rights, while Oz took the opposite stands.

Some real-estate developers are increasingly targeting offices and hotels for conversion into apartments because, they say, these projects are the only ones that make financial sense right now. The company spent a total of $14.2 million to acquire the properties, which Hubbard described as "on the run-down side."
